Exhibit Proposals
The Museum of African American Art has opened a new temporary exhibition space on Level 2, Suite 283, inside Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza during the mall's anticipated 18- to 24-month redevelopment period.
As we adjust to the museum's new exhibition space inside the mall, we are unable to consider unsolicited exhibit proposals.
At its sole discretion, the museum may invite artists, collectors, and institutions, or their representatives, to submit exhibit proposals. The submission of an exhibit proposal or images of artwork, at the museum's request or otherwise, shall not constitute an exhibit agreement or the promise of a future exhibition at MAAA.
Exhibition proposals are reviewed by the MAAA board of directors and subject to approval by the board's exhibit committee, which considers factors including but not limited to the following in its exhibit decisions: timeliness, location of the artist and artwork, relevance to the museum's mission and initiatives, readiness of the artwork for display, sponsorship and marketing plans, community interest, transportation and installation costs.
To support artists in our community, MAAA may propose an online exhibition or offer to feature a selected artist's work on social media channels instead of creating an in-person exhibition at the museum. Approval of both the artist and the museum is required for online exhibitions and social media posts.
